The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) and the Gauteng Provincial Student Movement (GPSM) note the response and the commitment made by the Gauteng Department of Health in a meeting that took place on Thursday the 01.08.19 at No. 45 Commissioner Street with the "Gatvol Community Service Nurses GP 2019" representatives and the DENOSA student movement leadership, following a march that was held last week demanding translation of community services in terms of their remuneration.
We wish to express and put it on record that we are pleased with the outcomes and the victory that belong to all the nurses that united themselves to talk to issues that had a significant impact towards the quality of patient care that the people of Gauteng are recieving and will continue to recieve.
We further want to state that all the Five (5) demands stated on the memorandum that was handed over to the head of department on Wednesday the 24.07.19 at 45 Commisioner street in the boardroom has recieved the necessary attention;
1. All community service nurses will be paid accordingly by the 15.08.19 and if at all challenges occur, all those affected will be paid by the 30th August 2019. A commitment was made that the 2020 Community service nurses will be paid as early as the end January 2020.
2. All 2019 Community service Nurses will be absorbed into public service at completion of community service and will be translated accordingly in January 2020.
3. The temporary 1 year community service contract has been withdrawn and nullified by the Gauteng Department of Health and the contract signed in 1st year of Nursing training remains effective.
4. Human Resource department has acknowledged that it has serious challenges that needs urgent interventions and will hold into account those who are found wanting within the department. The Acting DDG of HR committed to personally oversee the capturing process.
5. The 2019 Community Service Nurses to recieve  the balance of their uniform allowance by the 15.08.19 and the Student Nurse uniform allowance challenges to be looked into by DPSA.
Nurses have a much bigger role to play interms of advocating for an improvement in quality patient care and as such the people in the province are the ultimate beneficiaries of the actions of the 'Gatfvol PN comm-serves 2019 in GP. We believe that the GDoH has learnt important lessons from it's own errors and we shall not find ourselves in this situation going forward.
