DENOSA pays a surprise visit to retired nurse on her birthday

DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, paid a surprise visit to an 89-year-old retired nurse, Mrs Seipati Irene Kau, on her birthday at the retirement home in Northclif, Johannesburg, on 24 October 2019.

She spent her special day in the company of her former colleagues in the noble profession which dates as far back as 1948 when she started working at Non-European Hospital (to be later known as Baragwanath Hospital).

Present on her special day was Mrs Perpetua Nkoana Makhetha (86 years), and Mrs Ethel 'Attie' Lesolang (77) who is the former chairperson of Gauteng Retired Nurses Forum and mother to Kgomotso and Neo Matsunyane...

They all agreed that, out of the hard work that they put in as nurses during their working years and a lot of discipline, they say the Universe has paid them handsomely with longevity in their livelihood.

They also shared with President Hlungwani areas in nursing that they say need special attention urgently, such as the need for the re-establishment of onsite and ongoing clinical guidance to nursing professionals who are in transition from theory to practice.

They say doing away with this was the biggest blunder by the democratic government, because nursing, by its nature, is practice-oriented.

We congratulate Mrs Kau for this great milestone and wish her more many years on Mother Earth.
